HCM is an insidious disease which is not uncommon in cats of any breed and is also seen in non-purebred cats.

Cats may have HCM at any age.

A cat may appear healthy, but die suddenly without obvious symptoms.

No specific genes have yet been identified in the Bengal breed.

Specific modes of transmission have not yet been identified. Whether the genes are dominant or recessive, or whether a cat may be a silent carrier is as yet inconclusive.

A cat may live a fairly long life with HCM, or it may die at an early age.
