KITTENS AVAILABLE Available to do Light

Updated 07-09-2008
Bengal kittens for sale must weigh at least 3 lb. before going to new homes; an additional fee is required for neutering, usually $125-$150 (some kittens already neutered). We feel this is necessary in order to prevent the unnecessary breeding of pet quality kittens, and for their welfare in case of accidental loss, theft, or natural disaster.
Bengal kittens for sale are assessed on a continuing basis, and may be upgraded to show or breeder quality at any time during their growth. Deposits are accepted on pets, and every effort is made to provide a Bengal kitten of your choice; however, breeder's choice prevails when evaluating for pet, breeder, or show quality, and Bengal kittens are priced accordingly. These kittens are usually shown as "Under Evaluation." We evaluate our kittens for type first, and then pattern, so a beautiful Bengal kitten may be made available if it doesn't meet our need in capturing a specific trait. If a kitten pops a locket or other cosmetic fault it also will become available as a pet.

Greenmansions Bengal Cats' eye view from sun room windows:

Your New Kitten
Because cats in general are assumed to be prolific in producing litters of kittens, and also because the general public may assume cat fanciers make thousands of dollars selling purebred kittens, we're providing some general information with the hope you'll better understand why a little kitten is so expensive.
If you've never had a purebred cat, or even a mixed domestic cat, and this will be your first feline companion--or if you've had only a canine companion, then you may not be familiar with much of the expense and the labor of love that actually goes into raising purebred cats.
People who choose purebred cats prefer them for the same reason that dog lovers prefer a favorite breed. Purebred felines are also selectively bred for personality and intelligence as well as conformation; e.g., the Siamese or Bengal breed is totally different from the Persian breed when considering personality and activity; Bengals, particularly, are selectively bred for movement and athletic ability, requiring excellent musculature and correct skeletal conformation. Another example is, Turkish Vans seem to have a natural affinity for water, and some Bengals even enjoy the family's swimming pool.
Breed profiles can often be found in magazines about cats, such as "Cat Fancy," "Cats USA," etc. There has been an increase in the number of books written about cats over the last several years, and libraries carry very good selections of books about cats, breed history, and their care written by veterinarians and also by cat fanciers (see the bottom of our FAQS page).
Costs vary in different geographic areas, so the following costs are only estimates and may be more or less in your local area.
Vetting: The cost of an office call now ranges from $45, up; rabies vac-- reqired before they will handle an animal, even a kitten.. WAS $17), recently raised to $21); and health certificate (required) for shipping a kitten, add additional $15-$20. Air fare: Depending upon weight and surcharges can be as much as $200.
Vaccinations for distemper: Office visit $35 to $45; vaccine $15 to $20; testing for FeLV, FIV, etc. is additional.
Worming: Fecal testing, includes charge for an office visit and charge for each slide. Medication depends upon type, etc.
Food: Premium foods (NOT supermarket brands) may cost as much as $35 or more for 17 lb. bag. Wet foods (canned) may cost up to $1.25 or more for a 6 oz. can. Once or twice a week, cooked human quality meat, or freeze-dried meat.
Stud fees: Usually cost as much as $2,000, plus shipping, etc., if a breeder doesn't keep a stud, along with vetting, shipping, etc. for the visiting stud.
Care of expectant queen: Special diet and vitamins, exams, and sometimes xrays. Sometimes there may be complications, and a caesarian section or emergency treatment may be required. Queens don't always have enough milk, especially if there are five or six kittens. Kitten formula, may be as high as $40/container for powdered formula to be mixed with water. Kittens consume a huge amount of milk, and so it helps the queen maintain weight and good health if the kittens are supplemented with formula, and kittens also become more social.
Health, other: Many breeders test for issues that may be genetic, such as hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM); patallar luxation, cataracts, etc. Most of these tests are expensive. Testing one parent by a cardiac specialist with state-of-the-art equipment can be as much as $400 or more. Most people want a flashy and healthy pet, but aren't interested in what it costs to get there....
Showing: Most cat fanciers show their cats to insure they continue to meet the breed standard and to help improve the breed. Due to the continuing rise in the cost of almost everything, including hotel rooms, gasoline to travel (or airfare), dining away from home, it's rare for anyone to break even, not to mention making any profit.
Advertising: Newspapers, cat fancier magazines, Internet, web sites, all cost money.
And, oh! We haven't mentioned toys and show accessories....cat trees for lounging and honing their shives! Kitty condos! Exercise wheels! Special kennel curtains for the show hall; beds or cushions, hammocks, shampoo, brushes, coat enhancers, a veritable bevy of accessories for the discriminating and beautifully groomed cat ;-)).....sometimes there's a fine line when a judge chooses between the cat that's meticulously groomed and the current grand champion.
Most hobbies are expensive, and hobby breeding is no exception. There are also unique responsibilities not usually associated with other hobbies, since we're dealing with live creatures: Supporting the fancies due to increasilgly higher costs due to legislation, which we're forced to oppose (by contributing $$$$) in order to keep companion, working, and service animals available to a pet-loving population.
Purebred rescue is also supported in great part by private feline clubs or individuals, either by donations, fostering, or both. Most purebreds are rescued from kill shelters because of our dedication to our breed. So while others may "mess up" in pet responsibility, cat fanciers by the most part, "clean up" and try to undo any damage that's been done with help in the way of fostering, providing TLC, and rehoming, which costs money.
We hope that this article has given you a little insight into what goes into your new kitten, besides much affection for the little ones, and other animals in general. We have raised and shown Oriental Shorthairs and Siamese previously, but only Bengals over the past 12 years. A total of over 20 years of living with felines! We hope you'll visit our FAQS page, which may also be of help to you.....

Due to the Asian Leopard Cat ancestors in the Bengal breed, we're often asked if these kittens are appropriate pets for children.
Where live animals are concerned, there may always be exceptions. Generally speaking, Bengals are well adjusted domestics as much as any other
breed of domestic cat. Please follow this link to read more about Bengals as pets.
